Best Chicken and Waffles in Town
With the weather starting to cool down, what could be a better way to start up your weekend than some of the best Chicken and Waffles in town?
Brut Cake Café
Address: 698 Yuyuan Lu
Tel: 1732 100 8129
Hours: Mon to Friday, 7am to 9pm; Sat & Sun, 10am to 8pm
Their Sweet and Savory (RMB78) is certainly one dish to look forward to. Their 6-piece crispy fried chicken is light and savory. It’s not swimming in oil nor is it overly dipped in batter. Complimenting the crunchiness of the chicken is the thick pieces of waffle. It’s bouncy without being soggy or too thick to bite. This is only available on the weekend, and it is not to be missed!
Daimon Bistro
Address: 6FL, 5 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu
Tel: 021 5383 2031
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 6pm to midnight; Fri & Sat, 6pm to 2am
Daimon Bistro is the casual sister restaurant to upscale Michelin Stared, Bo Shanghai. Run by celebrity chef Alvin Leung, his take on the Chicken and Waffle (RMB138) has a welcoming Hong Kong twist. Fried Chicken in spices and dried chilies sits on top of a Hong Kong-styled egg waffle. This dish truly reflects the Hong Kong inspired concept of the restaurant and is absolutely one dish to set apart from all the rest.
Al’s Diner

Tel: 021 5425 1930
Hours: Daily, 9am to midnight
They got their whole concept right. What is there not to like? The Scoe Fried Chicken & Waffles (RMB60) is proportioned well so that it won’t be overstuffing your appetite. The batter is seasoned well, allowing it to mix seamlessly with the chicken. Waffles are good, but best to load up on the butter and syrup.
Highline

Address: 6FL, The Ascot, 282 Huai Hai Zhong Lu
Tel: 0216333 0176
Hours: Mon to Sat, 10am to 1am; Sunday, 11am to 1am
As one of the hottest restaurants in the scene right now, Highline offers a Chicken and Waffles (RMB 148) that is prepared sous vide style with a spicy batter. The waffles come with maple bacon butter that just makes the dish come together greatly. But, be prepared though…Highline is updating their menu soon and a new Chicken and Waffle will be ready for a debut.

Address: Multiple locations
Their Chicken and Waffles (RMB67) is anything but gourmet. However, their greasy fried chicken with their thick batter is the perfect hangover cure. Eat that with a fluffy stack of waffles (even better when drenched with maple syrup) and your Sunday is complete.
The Rooster
Address: 455 Shanxi Bei Lu
Hours: Daily, 11am to midnight
Welcome the weekend with their Chicken and Waffles (RMB50) at brunch. Their gravy brings out a taste of hometown goodness with a kick, especially if you enjoy a nice peppery finish.
